IRONSIDES YOUTH TEAMS - SURREY CUP ROUND-UP

It’s been another great fun season of cup rugby competition for Ironsides Youth - challenging themselves against teams from all over Surrey. We take stock of results and fixtures ahead of the second cup finals weekend this Sunday.

The Ironsides U15s won the first silverware of the season, clinching the Presidents Bowl last Sunday 7 April, with a solid 29 - 15 victory over Old Whitgiftians. Well done to all the boys!

A special mention also goes out the Ironsides U13s squad who have three teams in with a chance of winning their respective Waterfall Cup finals this Sunday. Ironsides U13s A team face big rivals Dorking for the President’s Cup, while the U13 Bs look to complete their run in the Treasurer’s Cup in the final against Reigate As. The U13 Cs have really shown just how much strength in depth we have in this age group and look to clinch the Secretary’s Cup title against Farnham. Everyone at the club wishes them the best of luck!

Ironsides U12s also entered three teams to the Waterfall Cup competitions this year. The U12 A team made a storming start in the Presidents Cup defeating Farnham and Haslemere without conceding a point, before losing to a strong London Irish side in the semi-final. They play Chobham for a creditable third place. Similarly the U12 Bs dominated the opening rounds of the Chairman’s Cup securing 8-2 and 9-0 wins against Cobham and Haslemere with some wonderful rugby. A frustratingly narrow loss to Kingston As in their semi-final means they face Old Cranleighans in the play-off for third place medals. The U12 C team have also played some great rugby in the Secretary's Cup and now face Warlingham Bs in the final. This is another age group showing real strength and progress through the whole squad.

The Ironsides U14 A  team have faced a very tough draw this season and nonetheless played with typical Ironsides spirit. They face Richmond for third place in the President’s Bowl. The U14 Bs have faired well in the Treasurer’s Cup: winning well against Streatham and Croydon and Camberley before losing to Wimbledon in the semi-final. They also play Richmond in their third place play-off.

Ironsides U16s opted out of entering the Surrey Waterfall Cup for the 18/19 season after an absolute mismatch of opposition last season. A series of 10 home and away fixtures were organised over the season - with Ironsides winning the vast majority of these games. A team was also entered into the Quin's Cup and are due to face Dorking in the Hampstead Cup Final on 28 April.

Congratulations to all our teams for playing some wonderful rugby with passion, skill, and resilience.  We wish everyone the best of luck for the finals!
