IRONSIDES SENIOR MENS WRAP UP 2018 WITH A FLOURISH

Having solidified their spot in the London 3 South West division, the Men’s 1st XV went into the 2018-19 season with the aim of climbing the league ladder, and 2018 hasn’t disappointed. Boyed by three straight wins out of the blocks, the 1s are currently well-positioned for a promotion push, rounding out the year with a fantastic 17-6 home win against perennial rivals, UPS Portsmouth, and a successful visit to Old Georgians. Currently just four points off of 2nd spot, the 1s host top-of-the-table Winchester on January 12th in a clash that could well set the scene for the rest of the season, so we all look forward to seeing you down at DSP on the sidelines.

The 1s drive a hole through USP's defence

Not to be outdone by the 1s, the Men’s 2nd XV have taken the Surrey Championship by storm and are sitting pretty at the top at the halfway mark. Led this year by Ollie Corbett in the 2nd row, the 2s perfect record is as much thanks to their stoic defence as their attacking gameplan, racking up the second highest points total whilst conceding a meagre 9 points a game. Whilst most at Ironsides will be putting their weary feet up over Christmas, our 2’s take to the field on the 5th of January for a game away at our SW20 rivals, Wimbledon.

Down in the Surrey Conference North, the Men’s 3rd XV are continuing the Senior’s 2018 trend of putting themselves in a position to challenge for silverware in 2019, sitting just 4 points adrift of KCS in top spot.  Pitting themselves against 2nd XVs across the board, 2018 was wrapped up with a convincing 38-0 demolition job against Mayfair Occies, handing them only their second loss of the season.

Just across the divide in the Surrey Conference South the Men’s 4th XV are keeping pressure on Sutton & Epsom in top spot, with Ben Taylor leading a defensive front currently giving up only 10 points a game. Closing out the year with a pair of impressive away wins, 2019 starts with a trip to Old Cats 2’s and at home to Mid Whits, with pressure mounting to bridge the 4 point gap with Sutton & Epsom at the top of the table.

The 4s enjoying the spoils of victory away to Dorking

The battle with Sutton & Epsom continues down in the Combination leagues, with the Men’s 5th XV sitting comfortably in 2nd spot, just 4 points behind the Surrey powerhouse. Led by Elliot Hennell, the 5’s are currently the division’s top scorers and will be hosting their division rivals on January 26th in a match that already looks like a potential division decider.
